Cutting Board and Butcher Block Care

Here are some tips on how to keep your Butcher Block looking fantastic when our Mineral Oil and Organic Beeswax Butcher Block Finish has been applied:

Your butcher block has been finished with a premium blend of Food Grade Mineral Oil and Food Safe Organic Waxes. The best way to maintain your butcher block or cutting board is with Food Grade Mineral Oil. Food Grade Mineral oil finishes are easy to maintain, and they help keep the wood in top condition. This is the preferred oil for seasoning wooden butcher blocks because it stays fresh forever. Other types of oil like walnut oil, olive oil, coconut oil, peanut oil, and linseed oil may turn rancid over time or are not food safe to begin with.

A mineral oil finish is great for your butcher block. The purpose of the oil to saturate the wood, keeping water and other substances out of the wood. Therefore, it's important to oil your butcher block on a regular basis.

You can find food grade mineral oil at any pharmacy or hardware store. It can be sold under the names butcher block oil or Mineral oil USP.

We recommend doing this once every week for the first month you have your butcher block. After the first month, once every 3 to 4 weeks typically works well (more frequently in dry or hot climates). As you get used to maintaining your butcher block, you'll start to get a good feel for when it needs to be oiled/conditioned.
